Disequilibrium growth theory with insider–outsider effects

چکیده

Ito has applied the non-Walrasian regime switching methodology to the Solovian neoclassical growth model and discussed the occurrence of regimes of full employment, overemployment and underemployment and the different dynamical systems (to be patched up) these regimes give rise to. We shall show in this paper that nothing of this sort really characterizes Solovian growth with non market-clearing real wages if overor under-time work of the workforce within the firms (the insiders) is taken into account. This simple extension of the two-dimensional dynamical systems of Ito by one dimension implies that there is only one regime possible (the Goodwinian classical regime) with a 3D dynamics that are easily made globally stable and which moreover are often globally asymptotically stable, and this even more when substitution and endogenous growth are added to the model. © 2000 Elsevier Science B.V. Market Power, Dismissal Threat and Rent Sharing: The Role of Insider and Outsider Forces in Wage Bargaining

Market Power, Dismissal Threat and Rent Sharing: The Role of Insider and Outsider Forces in Wage Bargaining One of the predictions of the insider-outsider theory is that wages will be higher in sectors (firms) with high labor adjustment costs/high turnover costs. This prediction is tested empirically in this study, using an insider-outsider model and a longitudinal panel of large firms in Portu...

The Insider-outsider Theory: Some Evidence from Australia

This paper uses Australian micro data to test the insider-outsider model. As part of this, the paper also examines whether the distinction between insiders and outsiders has more relevance for males or females. The paper finds that males have more insider power than females. It is also argued that this represents an indirect test in support of Lindbeck and Snowers’s (1988) turnover cost version...

The Insider-Outsider Theory: A Survey This article is an idiosyncratic survey of the insider-outsider theory, describing the vision underlying the theory, and evaluating salient contributions to the literature in the light of this vision. We also indicate what appear to have been dead-ends and red herrings in past research. The first section deals with the theory, concerning how labor turnover ...

Hysteresis and Insider-outsider Theory: a Literature Review

In recent years a large theoretical and empirical literature has emerged on hysteresis in unemployment. This paper reviews the theoretical part of this literature, including the various insider-outsider models that have been advanced to explain hysteresis. The review finds that while the assumptions required to generate full hysteresis are somewhat extreme, a less severe form of hysteresis, cal...

Acting Cooperatively while being Revolutionary: An Insider-Outsider Cybermediary Theory

In this paper we present an alternative perspective of a financial services cybermediary. Drawing on the institutional entrepreneurship literature and identity theory, we develop a theoretical model for cybermediaries that aim to become core players in the emerging on-line financial services field. In this model an alternating emphasis on either an insider perspective and interorganizational li...
